It’s no secret that protecting your skin from sun damage is an important way to reduce your risk of skin cancer. Another well-known risk for skin cancer is the use of tanning beds. Even so, many people continue to go to tanning salons, seeking a bronzed glow that actually represents damaged skin.

Skin Cancer Risk and Tanning Beds
Light bulbs in a tanning bed work by releasing ultraviolet (UV) radiation. When the skin is exposed to the concentrated UV rays, it begins producing more pigment, which darkens the skin and makes it appear tan.
